Rum coffee table

Many hours were spent prototyping proportions to create a table with balance and harmony, details are purposefully restrained and quiet. A dovetail frame holds a dramatic piece of bog oak with amazing colour and grain pattern. This tray ‘hovers’ above the legs with a very subtle shadow gap. A fabric lined shelf with custom woven fabric to match the tone of the bog oak completes the piece.

Design inspiration was taken from Mies van der Rohe's International Style in particular the magnificent Farnsworth house in Illinois with its clean lines and relationship between structure and nature.

Weaver Emily Mackey hand made fabric to line the shelf. The weave is made up of three dyed sections taking inspiration from the forest floor, winter oak leaf, bracket fungus and king Alfred’s cake.

Designed initially as a commission piece this table has the potential to be customised as a side table or a much larger coffee table with a couple of extra legs.

Made to order with a starting price of £1,900
